Salt Lake City by Shireen Kotay
Tracy Aviary
Shireen Kotay: If you love birds, and have time for a visit, this is a great place. The aviary is located in Liberty Park in central Salt Lake City. It's one of the oldest aviaries in the country from what they told me. It's a comfortable place -- lots of trees and the grounds are well kept. The admission price of $7 is a bit high, but if this is what you really enjoy -- then Tracy Aviary is worth a visit.
Mazza
Shireen Kotay: Without a doubt, Mazza is the authentic middle-eastern cuisine you'll find in #EastCentral, Salt Lake City. Family History Library
Shireen Kotay: This Library is great, helpful genealogy resource, regardless of religion. The extensive resources, including international civil and church records on microfilm, including, for example, Roman Catholic baptism records from Europe in Latin and the local language. They have many computers with web access in case youve done and recorded research previously, but didn't bring it with you
Cafe Trang
Shireen Kotay: Absolutely the best Vietnamese good I've ever had. Try the Malaysian Rice Noodles!!! Their entrees are generous and filling, each is a meal in itself. The service was excellent and the prices reasonable for the amount of food provided. Convenient location and nice atmosphere. Great place to eat and walk away satisfied.
Clark Planetarium
Shireen Kotay: Super fun place to visit whether you have children or not! It was a very educational experience for us. Although we didn't get the chance to go to an Imax film here, the tour of the Planetarium itself was so much fun! Not to mention, very cool and relaxing on a hot summer day. Take your family or friends to the Clark Planetarium for a great time! Don't forget the IMAX theater in it.
Red Butte Garden
Shireen Kotay: The way the garden is organized into fragrance, herb/medicinal, etc. is its uniqueness. The vibe is peaceful, there is plenty of shade and no shortage of beautiful flowers to photograph. A walk along the main path of the gardens takes about 2 hours at a slow pace and is an easy walk for children.
Rice-Eccles Stadium & Tower
Shireen Kotay: Rice-Eccles can accommodate over 45,000 fans without feeling overly crowded. The facilities are fantastic! There are plenty of concession stands, restrooms, seating and security to make sure everyone is comfortable and well taken care of. This is the best venue in Utah to see the best football team in Utah! Go Utes!!
Huntsman Cancer Institute
Pioneer Park
Shireen Kotay: Artisan cheeses. Handcrafted salami. Heirloom veggies. Seasonal fruits. These are the things that turn life into living and they're all available, in one place, direct from the source in downtown Salt Lake City. This is my top choice for farmer's markets in the valley, because of the sheer size and variety of goods and goodies available. It's also just fun to go for the entertainment. The location is well suited for the purpose.
Gallivan Plaza
Shireen Kotay: The Gallivan Center is a versatile, public urban area that plays host to recreational and educational activities for families and individuals alike. In the wintertime, a newly remodeled ice rink is available for skating, and as always, the Gallivan Center provides a unique downtown experience. It is a unique venue for a myriad of events including concerts, exhibits, fairs, weddings, ice-skating and more. Events are put on by local groups and organizations renting the plaza, while others are prog
Utah Theater
Shireen Kotay: Also known as the Pantages and the Orpheum, the Utah Theater was once a jewel of Main Street. It was built in 1918 and originally housed vaudeville performances. In 1988 the Utah Theater was closed as a movie theater and leased as a live state production house for the Salt Lake Repertory Theatre, known as City Rep, until they were forced to move when the building was sold to a new owner in 1992. Since then, the theater has had various owners from a Park City writer to a construction company.
Oriental Food Market
Shireen Kotay: There are a lot of Asian Markets in SLC, scattered all over the valley, this is the best Korean Market Downtown #EastCentral and the cleanest between this one and Seoul Market down by 40th South. Can't compare this to places in California, or any other state for that matter, because we are not in those states. That would be like crying in Korea Town, Los Angeles because the one in South Korea is better. This is what we got. Better like it.
P.F. Chang's China Bistro
Shireen Kotay: From Mild to spicy, they have many wonderful dishes in beef, pork, chicken and noodles varieties.. You should really go and judge for yourself. You will not be disappointed.. Just be sure to order the grilled asparagus.. Oh and the lemon chicken is divine as well. Though a bit pricey, I think the food will be worth it. Be prepared for a bit of a wait for seating and for your food. Try out the pepper steak and their signature lettuce wrap.
Chuck-A-Rama Buffet
Shireen Kotay: It's light, bright, with high ceilings, particularly in the circular room that houses the buffet lines. And the staff is friendly. They have theme days, its wise to watch your options online before you go. Can't complain about the taste, its ok, and Read MoreIt's light, bright, with high ceilings, particularly in the circular room that houses the buffet lines. And the staff is friendly. Aristo's Greek Restaurant
Shireen Kotay: Aristo's has a large menu with the Greek staples that one would expect plus a lot of unexpected items as well. Everything I have ordered there has been great, and the service is attentive and friendly. Natural History Museum of Utah
Shireen Kotay: The museum is associated with the University of Utah and their focus is not human history, measured in centuries, but natural history, measured in eons. The design, the view, the top floor exhibits, especially the one on natural disasters. Great place for kids and families. This museum had a lot of neat dinosaur fossils and areas for kids to play, a water area and digging area.
Salt Palace Convention Center
Shireen Kotay: The Salt Palace Convention Center is the perfect place for meetings of any size or occasion. From our delicate snowflake chandeliers to our gorgeous five-story main concourse and centralized location, the Salt Palace is part architectural showpiece, part modern art sculpture and all business.
O.C. Tanner Jewelers
Shireen Kotay: A sensitive melding of the historic structure and Beaux Arts design elements with the conveniences of a modern building - is both historic and contemporary, grand and intimate. The project preserved one of the area's most historic structures, the former Packard Library building which opened in 1905. The stunning restoration as O.C. Tanner's flagship jewelry store opened in September 2009.
